Fiction challenges are incidents of suggestion — someone suggests a set of circumstances and challenges a group to write a story that will incorporate all of those circumstances. While there are no "losing entries", the winners of these events are all those (including the authors!) who get to read the talented and imaginitive results.

The challenge was to write a vignette, as long as one wanted, which would be the author's version of that cut scene.
